We would like to wish all our members and supporters a Happy Christmas and all best wishes for the New Year in 2025. We hope you have a pleasant break.
We are so grateful to you all for your continued support.
Since we last wrote we have added a group of hebe sutherlandii to the new triangular bed which has a different type of birch tree in each corner with attractive bark.
Also a new group of good sized rhododendrons has been added adjacent to the Burma Star garden within the boundary wall. These were purchased with the proceeds of a generous funeral collection in memory of our late founding member Jerry Symons. We hope they will look stunning in years to come.
We have also had help from a group of year 3/4 children from Shaldon School with their staff. They loved sweeping up leaves as well as planting bulbs and planters and making a very fine bug hotel.
The council maintenance regime has changed and our regular gardener will be Colin with occasional assistance from Calum. We were sad to say goodbye and thank you to Duncan who’s had to do a mammoth amount of mowing in the recent wet summers.
Shaldon Parish Council have continued to contribute to the cost of 2 full gardening days a week in addition to the standard maintenance plan. This is much appreciated particularly as the councils funds are always stretched. This means the role of the Friends of Homeyards Botanical Gardens in Shaldon is all the more important.
Just a reminder that we are still in need of a treasurer as from January 2025.
Is there anyone who would feel able to help out? A full handover and support will be given.
And on the volunteering front could your New Year’s resolution be to join our band of cheerful gardeners on a Tuesday morning, or later in the year perhaps help out to serve teas and coffees at the castle?
Please if you would like to help…. Email : info@shaldonbotanicalgardens.org
