We hope you know about our castle openings on Tuesday and Friday mornings with our volunteers offering refreshments and a chance to see the lovely views and take in a bit of the history of the gardens. Our Facebook page and the gardeners hut blackboard show the weekly dates.
In 2022 we celebrate 100 years since the gardens were created by Mrs Homeyard, this being marked by the creation of the ceramic decorated seat which is now installed on the castle terrace. The local artists Michelle Greenwood Brown and Alison Miles have been working hard making, painting and firing the pieces with the assistance of a number of community workshops. We are very pleased to see this come to fruition and wish to thank Michelle and Alison for their creativity and huge skill in producing such an impressive work for all to enjoy. It contains a few little quirky features which you might like to find.
We would like to thank Shaldon Parish Council and organisers of the Bands in the Botanicals event for the welcome donation to the Friends of £1817 from ticket sales. The ticket proceeds were shared equally with the Ukraine DEC Appeal which also received further funds raised on the night.
The Friends welcomed the inspector from Britain in Bloom “It’s Your Neighbourhood “ scheme for volunteer groups in July. We hope to repeat the last award when we were judged as “thriving “ – a fitting acknowledgment of the hard work put in by all the volunteers throughout the year.

Our Facebook page is at facebook.com/shaldonbotanicals.

Volunteer gardening continues on TUESDAYS weather permitting starting at 10 am. Meet at the gardeners hut with your own gloves if you can. Tools are provided. All welcome.
